I've given up raging, its a wasted feeling for me. If I internalize it, I feel bad. If I start raging externally, I'm part of the problem. I focus on what I can do to help people connect and relate. maybe maturity finally kicking in at 70.
Basically summed up by "you can't control what other people say/do, you can only control your reaction to them". If Scott's excerpt is the highlight of the book, I just saved you $30 or whatever the book costs
Hey, TomD, guess what? What you read was the punch line, not the story. | I was struck by the extent of meaning that was in that excerpt; it was crafted to tell one part of the whole story- maybe the punch line; maybe not. In any case, the rest of the book must be amazing. Right now, I spend all my free time developing a series of Claude (Anthropic) AI Agents. When that's done, sign me up. - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - Hint: Block out an hour away from your smartphone; spend half of the time planting flowers or going for a walk in a forest; then read the excerpt (take your time) and spend the remaining time emailing the excerpt to your family and buddies. - - - - - - - - - - - - - - You are most certainly welcome, and I am glad you are back to the land of the living. - - -[This Reply reflects my takeaway from the excerpt. One is: When faced with an issue that you disagree with, don't smother it with contempt; instead, look for the root cause.]
I've been discussing the insidious aspects of fear, both conscious and sub-conscious for over 12 years now. Ironically, their manifestations often appear as bravado in the Kabuki played by our national 'leaders' as well as the more obvious manifestations . . . as a biologist this is simply animal biology in play but with that unique twist the human species brings to our animus rising whenever that instinct strikes us and related to our individual programming. Interestingly enough fear as tied to the survival instinct has morphed into more and more people staying quiet, and, instead of acting to thwart the what is obviously wrong and an existential threat, position themselves to take personal, individual advantage of the situations creating fear, most often manifested in monetary/material gain (i.e.survival security) as a first order of business when the more natural, and largely male instinct, should be to confront and thwart the threat.
Separately but related this is why religion, which I want to include as spirituality / philosophy / ethics matter . . . we have purged these from education because they hold not obvious economic value, yet that value is now obvious as our national debt crosses the $40 Trillion mark where a significant amount of that debt went to the 1% of the 1% through government contracts, subsidies and the legalized corruption of deregulation of the financial sector and a mantra of maximizing shareholder profit at all cost, including the long term viability of companies that actually create and deliver value.....this is where the huge cost of white collar people in positions of influence is being paid for a lack of these traits that do not have any numerical metric with a dollar sign upon them......but, I digress.....the point is this spirituality, philosophy, ethics gives us faith (not belief but faith) to overcome falling into the insidious Dante's Inferno of Fear..... we do not have the numbers in front of us, we acknowledge we do not know all the risks and variables and our innate animal inside us prioritizes survival ......and we choose to move forward with the 'right' actions and thoughts anyway.
I share your thoughts. But your sidebar should not be buried in a 2nd-level Reply. It deserves to be displayed in its full glory as a ReStack, or more.
I "rage" about people like the author "raging" about fear. Give me a break. Being fearful and worrying does nothing to help the person. Addressing your concerns and taking action is the smart and healthy approach. Another waste-of-time email from Scott.
Sorry, friend, your words seem to contradict each other. I wonder whether you really read the whole excerpt, because I didn't see anything that suggests being fearful. You also seem to mirror the excerpt's intent. If I missed something, please spell it out; I would like to know exactly what I missed.
I rage all the time about PHONINESS which is most visible on our bodies-- 70% are WAISTED35-- visceral fat around the waistline that is 35 inches or more. And according to the Washington Post, 9 out of 10 of us have CKM. ALL the major health organization reported on CKM this past June. Still the Media hides. Still the media hates Joan Breibart for telling the truth. EAT Healthy & Exercise More is the wrong formula. This is what happens
For nearly 50 years, Oprah experienced exactly this kind of metabolic and behavioral whiplash. She dieted, lost weight, regained it, restricted again, exercised intensely, lost again and regained again. In 1988 she famously lost 67 pounds on a liquid diet—and eventually regained all of it plus more. Decades of trying harder did not solve the problem. A GLP-1 medication finally changed the hunger signal itself. it's only 80bites.com that works.

I agree and considered this but felt that I needed to tie this to my initial thoughts and comments.
