Thank you for bringing attention to this important issue. I am a chemistry professor who had two large grants cut, which were directly funding students salaries as they worked on research on hydrogen generation and capture materials. Those cuts caused months, if not years, in delayed progress of the research but also destroyed decades-long careers. They also had unquantifiable but demonstrably negative, impacts on the research careers of students working on those projects. These kids were in the inaugural cohort of a program I founded/co-designed to invite people into the world of science in a comfortable environment and launch them into their scientific futures. Instead, it sullied their experience in our program, delayed their progress, caused massive amounts of unnecessary stress and drama, and essentially killed our ability to demonstrate the efficacy of our programmatic model, making it much more difficult for us to extend the program to future students. These research cuts are beyond shameful, short-sighted, and idiotic, they are seriously harmful to America’s future in ways that the American public is unlikely to ever know.
The question you have to ask yourself is who are all the people who wrote that Project 2025 doc, and why is it that they do not see the value of any of this? I think the answer to that question is that these are free-market ideologues who believe that "the market can solve all things". The market is not good at funding basic research in the absence of monopolies (like the Bell System and IBM), and even there, that research even those companies were doing was in partnership with the US Govt.
Shameful changes! It’s very sad to see! Vote Early Vote Blue 💙💙💙💙💙
