Jessica Tarlov and Aaron Parnas break down a wild week in American politics.

Trump’s post-midterm nightmare is getting worse. A federal judge just blocked his plans for a massive triumphal arch, while the president weighs whether to reignite the war with Iran. Meanwhile, Wall Street is rattled, Trump is blaming voters for the market turmoil, and Republicans are already positioning themselves for a post-Trump future.

Mike Pence is breaking with the president, the 2028 jockeying is underway, and the GOP’s internal divisions are becoming harder to ignore.

But Democrats have their own challenges. After riding affordability concerns to major midterm victories, they now have to deliver. From Nithya Raman’s win in Los Angeles to a potential rollback of Texas Republicans’ culture-war agenda, Democrats are beginning to put their newfound momentum to work.

Plus, Gavin Newsom makes a major move on California’s death row, Cory Booker heads back to South Carolina, and a newly expanded coalition of blue states could bring the National Popular Vote compact closer to changing how America elects its president.
