Excellent thoughtful piece. The concept of asymmetrical can be applied in so many areas of our lives: dating, how we work, looking for work/jobs, planning careers, growing a business etc etc.
Hindsight is 20/20. Clinton could have taken Bin Laden out. He didn't. Iran has killed hundreds of Americans directly and indirectly. Imagine what they would do with the bomb. The Straight would become a toll forever. Iran sponsored Islamic terrorists would have a hey day or century. Did Israel know about October 7th? What should have they done? Attack Gaza with its miles of tunnels preemptively? If you think the PR is against them now? How about closing all non-US bases? That is a good start. Europe will always be a problem among themselves as history has shown.

“Moderates have no voice!” Good grief, moderates have prevented any progress for anyone except the wealthy since LBJ. And do you know why you don’t hear anything about the debt? As always, it’s because republicons are in charge now. You’ll hear it again the minute democrats have any control.
One indicator (one of many) of how broken our political system is, is that neither party even mentions the debt/deficit as an issue. The endless spending is truly, as others have said, a hate crime against future generations. But voters want more "stuff" from the government and politicians will do pretty much anything to get elected and stay elected. So the future is grim.

The fix for social security seems pretty easy-- raise the income threshold and means test benefits so someone with more than say $150k in passive income starts to have their social security benefits cut. But, of course, old people vote so means testing is likely a non-starter.
The Medicare fix is tougher politically and ethically. But we should start by stopping expensive procedures at a certain age-- say age 90 for starters. Lots of companies would object because they make money from knee replacements or cochlear implants for 95 year olds-- but someone has to have the guts to propose this fix.
Scott forgot to mention that he is a huge fan of Israel and the right wing extremists running that country. Incompetent trump and his incompetent secretary of war started something that they can’t finish on behest of Israel. Moving the bombers was a good idea because the Iranians could have attacked the bombers with a swarm of drones and caused billions of dollars of damage. They can still try to attack the bombers in the US but it will be a bit harder. Withdrawing the bombers is not a big deal because there are no bombs left to drop. The war with Iran is the greatest strategic blunder in US history and there is no easy way out. The US taxpayers should not be footing the bill for Bibi’s imperialist aims.
We can't recruit for the military since our population is too fat-- 70% of us. And 90% have CKM so we should be able to cut spending. 30 % over five years.
