Scott, everything in this piece is right, and the labor question deserves its own spotlight: the jobs these people held were overwhelmingly the ones most Americans have consistently refused to do. Backbreaking hours, fixed wages, few or no benefits, no glamour, no upward path. Nobody was lining up to take those roles before the raids started, and nobody's lining up now that they're empty. So the actual question nobody in this administration seems willing to answer is: who does the work?

That's a hallucination with a product roadmap attached, and in the meantime crops rot, kitchens go short-staffed, and construction slows, while the actual humans who used to do that work are in a detention facility named after an alligator instead of on a job site. Nobody's coming to fill the gap. That was never the plan. The cruelty was the plan, and the labor shortage is just the receipt.
